| Due to the high volume of goods shipped from online  shops around the world, demand for logistic services increases considerably in  recent years, which includes a convenient way for users to receive the parcel. The  Centre, therefore, proposes a RFID enabled parcel locker system, to offer users  a new way of collecting the parcel in a preferred location at a time whenever  they want. This system, with capabilities from RFID and IoT  for process integration, facilitates the operations along the whole parcel  delivery chain. The RFID antenna installed inside the locker box streamlines  the postman’s process by identifying the right parcel in the right box; while  the Infra-Red (IR) sensor senses the safety of the parcel inside the box. With  the RFID and IR technology, notifications with a PIN code will be sent to user  to open the corresponding locker box and pick up the parcel, and further  notifications will be sent if the parcel is left out.In order to provide feedback for continued improvement  of this system, Hongkong Post will offer trial sites for which the trial  programme is expected to be launched by the first quarter of 2017. The Centre  believes that this RFID enabled parcel locker system could improve the  operation of the Hongkong Post and enhance the level of satisfaction of parcel  locker users, which ultimately increase the e-commerce ability of Hong Kong. |
