Automated Concrete Cube Testing System

With the technology support of LSCM, the Public Works Laboratories (PWL) of the Civil Engineering and Development (CEDD) has developed the Automated Concrete Cube Testing System to carry out concrete cube curing and concrete cube testing procedures. LSCM applied the technologies including robotics, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and AI analytics in the system. The system automates the entire concrete cube testing procedures with high efficiency.

This complete end-to-end system is the first of its kind in Hong Kong and worldwide. The robotic arm of the system would pick and place the concrete cube for the testing procedures.  The data of the dimension and weight measurement of the cube, as well as the compression test result would be recorded automatically. The system effectively enhances the efficiency of the PWL, and reduces human error and malpractice associated with the manual operation of concrete cube testing. The efficiency, quality, reliability of the concrete cube testing procedures, as well as the occupational safety and health of the laboratory staff are significantly enhanced.

This Automated Concrete Cube Testing System is currently deployed in CEDD’s Public Works Regional Laboratory (Sham Shui Kok) on Lantau Island. LSCM collaborates with CEDD to promote automation and foster technology adoption in the construction materials testing industry in Hong Kong.

e-Smart Port Platform (eSPP) News Portal

LSCM is developing the e-Smart Port Platform (eSPP) which is a data-smart infrastructure and an inter-organisational software platform to facilitate the sharing of port and logistics information in the port community with the application of blockchain technology, smart contracts, advanced IoT technology, BeiDou communication and global positioning technology, etc.

Alongside the development of the eSPP, the eSPP News Portal has been developed to collect the latest industry news, reports, blogs and other useful information for the industry’s reference and discussion. Hong Kong Sea Transport and Logistics Association (HKSTLA) and Hong Kong Ecommerce Logistics Association (HKELA) have started using the eSPP News Portal to share the industry news and information with their members.
